Charleston, SC

We were happily back in Charleston this past weekend. Beautiful weather, lots of planned activities, and the company of great friends made for a wonderful start of our Spring Break.

Pineapples have long been the symbol of hospitality.  Ship captains of long ago would spear a fresh pineapple on his gate post to alert neighbors that he was home from sea and accepting visitors.

Pineapples on posts:

A visit to the South Carolina Aquarium was already on our to-do list, but we were extra excited to learn that the world famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids were there this week.

I think I enjoy the birds at the aquarium as much as the fish.  Possibly more.  These great birds are one thing I miss about living at the beach.  On occasion, we'd have Blue Herons (shown right) in our own backyard.

We took an evening carriage ride at the request of one of our teens.  It was a beautiful evening.

"The blue hour" is my absolute favorite time of day.  I love when homes come alive with light in the early evening hours.  So warm and welcoming.

This goes for the churches too.

We have a dear young friend and neighbor who is currently going to school at The Citadel.  We were so honored to be there for his Recognition weekend to celebrate his first year.

The Citadel cadets marching down King Street  on their way to being sworn in.

It was a beautiful and well-deserved ceremony.

The iconic Cooper River Bridge basking in the sunshine.  I took this photo as we were going out to tour Fort Sumter.

The first flags of our wonderful state:

It's no surprise to me that Blue-and-White pottery was popular even then.

A trip to Charleston is never complete without a little shopping on King Street.

Rainbow Row has my heart in the palm of it's hand.

I can't begin to count the number of photos that I've taken of window boxes in Charleston over the years.  They inspire me greatly.  I'll have to do another post on them alone.

Oh my Carolina home, how much I do love you.

Officially Open for Business

I'm very happy to announce that Belle & Beau Boutique is now an official Brick-and-Mortar.

We moved in today and will be adding lots of inventory over the coming weeks.

Hope you'll stop by to say hello!

Wellness Wednesday

Just wanted to share a few of my newest favorites on the topic of health. Both of the Diabetes books are phenomenal and I'll have several copies of each available in the shoppe.  WOMEN, FOOD, AND GOD is a recent library find that I'm excited to get started on.  And the Tervis Tumbler?  We've been friends for a long time, that Tervis brand and I.  We only have the 16oz cups for our family though, so this 24oz size is a perfect addition for taking in the car.  Drinking lots of water helps the body in so many ways.

Giving of the Heart

Entertaining friends and family in our home is one of my favorite ways of giving of my heart.  In return though, I always find that my heart is even fuller after the evening is over.  Funny how that works, huh?

Here are a few photos from our most recent Bunco evening.  Our theme was "Easter" and we each made Easter Bonnets to wear (ahead of time).

You simply MUST take the time to enjoy this wonderful snippet:

My dear friend Missy brought this Carrot-shaped Cheese Spread.  So clever!

I try to have a specialty drink and non-alcoholic beverages to go with our theme.  Please notice that those glasses only contain a few sips each, LOL!   We've found that we just can't handle the strong stuff.

LADY IN PINK BONNET

In a blender, combine:

1/2 cup Pinnacle Whipped Vodka
1/3 cup Strawberry Liqueur
1/2 cup Half & Half
1 cup ice

Blend until smooth and enjoy!

Same hat, so many variations!

These girls are some of my greatest friends.  They are the dreamers and doers, the believers and the thinkers. I enjoy their company so very much.

Every bunco group plays a little differently.  Our group provides five prizes each month and of course, the prizes match the theme.  Always such a fun, fun time!

Bunco

I'm a busy gal today because I'm hosting my Bunco group tomorrow night.  Our theme this month is Easter and we're all going to be wearing handmade Easter Bonnets.  I've really enjoyed crafting mine today and can't wait to see what the other girls did with theirs.  We had plenty of Pinterest inspiration to keep the creative juices flowing, that's for sure!
